The EGSC HPCC was decommissioned during calendar year 2018. This legacy Website remains available - for information only - as a record of the features and capabilities of this unique operational Website for the now closed high-performance computing facility. Although many of the capabilities of this Website are now commonplace, some were innovative when they were developed for this Website. This site hosted an early prototype of secure Web access to computational applications running in parallel on the HPCC. Web access was provided through a public-facing Website hosted on the Cluster's main control node.

This was the operational Web Site for the High-Performance Computing Cluster (HPCC) developed at the now closed Eastern Geographic Science Center. The EGSC HPCC was a Beowulf, a cluster of eighteen computers interconnected by a private, high-speed (by the standards of the time) network. This facility was operated by the Eastern Geographic Science Center primarily to support the development and operation of computationally-intensive models and applications in land-change science and quantitative geography.

This Web site has two functions:

1. Providing General and Technical Information: this site provides information about the capabilities and availability of this computational facility for USGS researchers who may require computational support; and
2. Providing a Web Interface: this site provides Web access to the applications and jobs hosted on the EGSC HPCC.
